Topic: [Solved] BLack screen after start X

Hi,
I'm stuck with my gparted live USB stick,
After the X question I get a black screen.
Answering the which mode you prefer with "0" I get a black screen.
Answering with "1" , I get :
xinit: unable to connect to X server

The motherboard is a VIA EPIA EX series

Thanks to guide me to a solution, as I do not know what to search for.

Jack

PS: the was already successfully used on other PCs/MACs

Have you seen the GParted Live Manual - Appendix B: Tips on Booting GParted Live?

Re: [Solved] BLack screen after start X

Yes , I already red the Appendix.

1. should not be the problem as I get the gparted starting menu (blue CD-Rom Background)

2. I tried both , go to black screen
- vga = normal - ends with the mode selection to start X, 0 brings black screen
- Failsafe - ends with the mode selection to start X, 0 brings black screen
only difference between the two modes , in vga=normal I get a smaller font then in failsafe

3. Forcevideo: I selected smallest resolution, lowest colour depth , vesa as I have VGA graphics
-> Black screen

4. I do not know where to enter these settings using the TAB key

5. I don't have an IBM,

it's a VIA EPIA EX board, HERE you may find the Datasheet of the board, maybe you may find some info there, I do not realy know what to search for.
There's no extra graphics card plugged into the board.

gparted live version 0.21.0-1-i686-pae

Thank you very much for you help.

Re: [Solved] BLack screen after start X

I now used the 0.33 non-pae version of gParted live and I got it running .
The problem now is that I only see the USB-Stick partition and not the 1TB SSD where I want to change the partition from 0,5TB to 1TB

As my new problem is not realy related to this Topic Title, I have created a new topic here:

Thanks @jumperger for reporting back with how you fixed the problem and for editing the initial post to prefix the title with SOLVED.
