3TB HDD uses Advanced Format (4k sectors). I'd be very surprised if any current 2.5" USB external HDD uses 4k sectors, as even the biggest current one is only 1.5TB. I prefer ~500GB 2.5" drive as they have fewer platters and run cooler.

Perhaps it is related to some specific kernel.
I saw that same comment on newegg by user Kendo: "This drive does NOT work on Ubuntu Linux as of 10/8/2011."
class413 wrote:Can you try it please, with no other USB devices connected on the computer?
Despite Kendo's comment, I tried Ubuntu 11.10 live-CD yesterday, and (like Gparted 11.0-7) it didn't see the drive.
Is there some command line option with Gparted that I need to use to see this drive?
Anyhow I just downloaded the current Fedora16 iso default version, 32 bit. I'll make a boot CD of it and try it in a few hours.
Again, the current/latest Gparted 11.0-7 doesn't seem to see this Hitachi Turo external HDD. So if it is not compatible with both the current Ubuntu and the current Gparted, I'm going to return it and take the restocking loss.
Do you, or anyone else, have actual experience using a 2.5" external HDD that works via USB 3.0 port on a mobo?
What brand(s) of external 2.5" HDD work with Linux and Gparted? (USB 3.0 only, please)
