I am trying to format a usb hdd with ufs fs from gparted in ubuntu, however ufs option is disabled.
How can enable it?

That's right, UFS creation and resizing isn't actually supported.
These operations are performed from dedicated free/open source tools that GParted uses.
About UFS, it seems that there is no such free/open source Linux software to perform these operations.
So, Linux cant mount and support USF based discs?
Not just mount, the main scope is to resize.
Every tool that is sufficiently stable and meets the licence requirements, is welcome.
The UFS file system is used by Berkeley Unix. It is not native to GNU/Linux.
If you wish to start a project to write UFS utilities for GNU/Linux, then I suggest you spend some time searching the Internet to learn more about UFS and any possible attempts by others.
