Topic: Development Plans for the Next Release of GParted (0.6.3)

The focus continues on bug fixes for the next release of GParted (0.6.3).  With these bug fixes we are endeavouring to increase the robustness of the application.  No new features are planned for this release.

The planned release date for GParted 0.6.3 is September 23, 2010.

Candidates under consideration for GParted 0.6.3 include:

yes - Bug #503125 - Add labelling of linux-swap
Though this patch adds new functionality, it is small and relatively benign so I plan to include the patch in the 0.6.3 release of GParted.  Thanks go to Mike Fleetwood for this patch.  smile

yes - Bug #611431 - Ensure no pending operations before swapon and mount

yes - Ubuntu Launchpad Bug #503125 - GParted permits creating partition table when partitions are mounted

yes - Ubuntu Launchpad Bug #600729 - Gparted not usable on fakeraid arrays

New features under consideration for GParted 0.7.0 include:

Bug 571170 - Initial btrfs support
Luca Bruno has created a patch to add btrfs file system support to GParted.  Testing is still needed.

Bug 171215 - Support lost partition recovery
Joan Lledó has done much work in this area providing a patch that uses gpart to find lost partitions.

A fix for Bug 611431 - Ensure no pending operations before swapon and mount has been committed to the git repository for inclusion in GParted 0.6.3.

A fix for Ubuntu Launchapd Bug #503125 - GParted permits creating partition table when partitions are mounted has been committed to the git repository for inclusion in GParted 0.6.3.

The dependency on the kpartx command has been removed, thus fixing Ubuntu Launchpad Bug #554582 - GParted does not list dmraid devices.  This enhancement has been committed to the git repository for inclusion in GParted 0.6.3.

A dialog box has been added to address Bug #627199 - Warn on move that boot process may be broken.  This enhancement has been committed to the git repository for inclusion in GParted 0.6.3.
