Topic: [SOLVED] failed to boot

i downloaded the cd and tried to boot from it but get the following error:

"The system memory manager (EMM386.EXE) has detected an error in one of the device drivers or programs loaded in the system."

my system specs are the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+
512MB RAM
Winfast Motherboard C51MCP51 (Foxconn 6150K8MA-8EKRS)

running win xp pro

what i would like to do is resize my 2nd hard disk partition from 55GB to about 15 GB, and create a partition for linux.

i appreciate any help

hmmz, you are right and just to be sure, what cd did you download?

Re: [SOLVED] failed to boot

i downloaded the iso and then used cdburnerxp pro (cdburnerxp.se) and set the write options to boot disk.

Re: [SOLVED] failed to boot

plors, the file i downloaded was gparted-livecd-0.3-1.iso from sourceforge

Re: [SOLVED] failed to boot

well, it could be something else too :
voltere, did you burn the iso like a file making a bootable cd using et floppyboot image, or did you really burn the iso like it using a "burn iso" menu ???

Re: [SOLVED] failed to boot

i think the EMM386.EXE is the system memory manager error from my computer not on the livecd. The download mirror was from sourceforge.

Larry i made the cd like a file making a bootable cd, not an iso.

Re: [SOLVED] failed to boot

problem solved.

i wasnt burning it as an iso, instead merely as a bootable cd.
however burning it as an iso, creates a bootable cd.

the emm396.exe was probably a file added to the cd to enable it to run on win98/ME.
