Topic: Shrinking NTFS takes about 15 hours

Hi, i am trying to shrink an NTFS Partition from 74.52 to 72.57 GiB on a brand new Dell ATG D620. GParted says that will take 2:45, but its running for 1:30 now and it has completed 6.92 GiB.
Is this normal?

I was using Partion Magic before, the same process took about 20 minutes.

Do you need more information?
Can I speed up that process?

Thanks a lot.

Re: Shrinking NTFS takes about 15 hours

It can take sometimes long, especially if the partition is highly occupied or we move the start sector of it.
Perhaps defragmenting the partition from windows could speed up the process, but i'm not sure about this. Furthermore, once you started the resizing, you have better to not stop it, unless you have backup copy of your data.

Re: Shrinking NTFS takes about 15 hours

It finished 40 GiB in 8 hours yesterday.

And this is a 72 GiB HDD, what if i take a 500GiB model?

Partition Magic did the job in 15 minutes, same notebook same partitions.
I thought Gparted could be an alternative, but for Shrinking NTFS it is a waste of time.

Re: Shrinking NTFS takes about 15 hours

Operations I did on my own HDD (300GB) took times between 9 seconds and 2 minutes (various ntfs & fat32 resizing operations, new partition creation & formatting).
