Topic: GParted Live CD on a Powerbook.

Hi all. I have used the Live CD to partition a machine that came with Vista. But I still have this old mac from ages ago. I've never used it myself and I know very little about booting on a Mac. Would the Live CD be able to help me partition the hard drive on the Powerbook Pismo? Then I might be able to do put somthing like Ubuntu on it?

I think Powerbook Pismo uses a powerpc processor, not intel-compatible. It is an excellent processor, especially for notebooks, thanks to its low power consumption. But it is a RISK processor and uses an instruction set other than that of the x-86 type (intel - AMD) processors. That's why you can't run any system or software designed and compiled for x-86 processors.

There are Linux distros for powerpc processors (slackware, debian, gentoo and many others). About Ubuntu, I found that there are versions 6.10 edgy and older for ppc. You can search for further info about Linux distros that support powerpc in a special website:

If this Powerbook works, I would like to keep it running in the original configuration, as a collection piece smile  The Apple community is very supportive, I think.

You can't use the livecd to boot directly Pismo, because livecd is compiled for x86 processor. In this case you have to compile it from source, unless it is already compiled in any powerpc distro s/w collection.
