Topic: Formatting

Just a quick question!
Before i download the live CD and everything, i would like to know if i can format using this tool or if it only allows moving and resizing partitions... Because i currently have 2 HDs with several NTFS partitions that still contain stuff and i would like getting rid of all that before i prepare it with ext3 partitions for a clean install.

Re: Formatting

Yes, it can format too, but not all filesystems.
It can delete old partitions, create new partitions and create the filesystem in them (it workd with ext2, ext3, fat32, ntfs).

For other filesystems, you can look at the documentation:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/larry/ge … ain-1b.gif

But, maybe some distributions or operating systems need to have the first few sectors of the partitions whipped out. If it is the case, you could do it using dd from the Terminal.

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***
