Topic: Damaged hard drive

Howdy all.

My hard drive is basically cabbaged from some physical damage, but most of it is still usable. Anyway, my question is..

Is there a way gparted can sort of check which parts are damaged and assign those to a partition of their own so they don't get used?

Thanks,

J.

Re: Damaged hard drive

Gparted isn't a recovery program.
A good test + recovery tool (free) is TestDisk, together with PhotoRec (for photo and video archives).

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***

J,
this is the first time I will disagree with class413. If you have physical damage, its gonna migrate to the rest of the hdd. Either spindle misalignment or shaking or whatever, it is not going to end up good.

I raised 6 kids and we all had our own computers and hdd's, using a broke one never ended up good. What inevitably happens, you get it just like you want it, then it dies.

Toss that sucker and get a new one. Maybe check on the warranty, a surprising number of our hdd's were still under warranty when they went bad.

Hey, you can still run iso from the cd.
have a nice day,
