Topic: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

Hi guys
I have downloaded your updated CD ISO Image and burned it. It works fine untill when the script ">> Attempting to mount media :- /dev/hdc" appears on my screen : CD doesn't go on, it seems to be freezed.
Does it normally take a very very long time o anything is wrong with my pc?

Are you sure your cd is well burned? Is your downloaded ISO file good?
You must do the MD5 check on the ISO file.
But, /dev/hdc is a hard disk unit. Can you give your computer configuration, please?

I did the MD5 check ...

Anyway my cofiguration is

/dev/hda1            W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/hda2            Linux
/dev/hda3            Extended
/dev/hda4            Linux
/dev/hda5            Linux swap / Solaris

/dev/hdc              dvd-rw
/dev/hdd              cd-rom

Can you try to use your other optical device as 1st boot device, please?

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

did you try the both drives ?
Could you increase the scandelay by editing grub command line and change scandelay=6 to scandelay=15 ?

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

Hi.

I have the same problem: I can't boot GParted since it stops trying to mount /dev/hdc.
/dev/hdc is a dvd burner, and it's my only optical drive.
md5sum is ok.

Any solution?

Thanks

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

what is the location of your second drives ?
When you point it, use the fifth boot option, edit line and change cdroot=/dev/sr0 to your location
And tell if it fixes your problem.

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

Thanks for your help, but I could not boot it.
My drives are /dev/hda1, /dev/hdb1 and /dev/hdc. I'm trying to boot the CD from /dev/hdc, and it stops when it tries to mount it.
Changing the 'cdroot=...' option  didn't change this strange behaviour...

Hm, did you try CDR or CDRW to burn the iso ?

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

yes if you have time, I would do appreciate any kind of help !

Well, I recently built an beta with some changes in the kernel... I will upload asap.

What I know is that such card works when booting off Knoppix with fb800x6600 option. I have contact one of the devs to get the kernel and made a kdiff between their and mine, but I can't point out any thing important.

Maybe you could try the livecd of one of my best friends and tell me if it works : we both use gentoo-catalyst to built our livecd, so ...

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

Same problem here. It got stuck on /dev/hdc (hda and hdb UDMA drives, hdc cd/dvd drive hdd cd drive with the cd loaded)
I waited an hour and it then carried on to /dev/hdd where it found the media.
It is now copying the gparted.dat file for caching... and has been for the last 10 minutes.
The disk is spinning occasionally but the CD light isn't on. I'll leave it overnight and see if it gets any further.

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

Is the cd drive in good condition? Does it work smoothly in other operating systems? These times seem tooooo long. It would be 2-3 minutes.

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

It might not be an hour exactly but it was an hour by the time I returned to that system. It was certainly longer than 10 minutes. I tried both drives. I haven't noticed any problem with the drives under slackware linux. Perhaps caching isn't working (properly) with this hardware.

Re: Problem with GParted Live CD : Attempting to mount media

512M.
Chapter 3. After selecting the keyboard and so on it trundled on slowly then eventually crashed with the message.

EIP: [<c03274a7>] __ide_set_handler+0x60/0x73 SS:ESP 0068:0c673de0
Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt

I've tried the CD in another PC and it works fine - boots up to the GUI in a couple of minutes.
So I suppose the problem is in the PC hardware or the device drivers.

If you need a dump of what a working linux installation makes of the PC hardware let me know.
