Topic: Which option I have to choose on this screen, please ?

Hi everybody,

Sorry for my bad english.

My partitions (from the beginning (I prefer to think high (beginning) towards down))

. sda1 (ntfs win xp)
. sda3 home
. sda4 which is my root

Here is a place free which I got moving down fat32 then the swap

. sda2 (extended = swap and fat32)

Please can you tell me me where I am wrong and what I have to do exactly ?

0. I want to extend sda1. I need to move down sda4 near sda2, then  the sda3 near sda4. After doing this and extending sda1, before reboot, I need to check the new UUID and to update the /etc/fstab and the /boot/grub/menu.lst.

1. I thought all this actions are possible with the Gparted Live Cd.
2. I downloaded gparted-livecd-0.3.4-6 (in property it is writen - Type de fichier : IZArc ISO Archive)
3. I burnt direct (i did not proceed to any extraction) an image ISO with deep burner
4. I proceeded to reboot with the Cd.
5. I obtained these offers

Gparted - Live CD 0.3.4-6 (auto-configure)
Gparted - Live CD Do X configure (mkxf86config.)
Gparted - Live CD macbook option
Gparted - Live CD with frame buffer
Gparted - Live CD Force VESA Driver
Gparted - Live CD Force I740 Driver
Gparted - Live CD Force I810 Driver
Boot MBr on first hard drive
Boot partition#1 on first hard drive
Boot partition #2 on first hard drive
Boot partition #3 on first hard drive
Boot partition #4 on first hard drive
Boot mbr on second hard drive
Boot partion #1 on the second drive

6. There I am like a hen who has found a knife (Here I am not wrong; it is what I feel). Nowhere (except what our friends wrote here, crying like me here) I read about this screen (but my english...).
7. I tried the first option and got a dark screen. Completly blocked. I found a needle and press on  this small button.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Which option I have to choose on this screen, please ?

Hi everybody,

Much ado about nothing...

I am still interested by your answer(s). But in between I solved my problem. I discovered I had no good solution (by resizing)...

I booted with a Cd Ubuntu (Edgy Eft).

I checked a lot of things before resizing :

. sudo tune2fs -l /dev/sda4 | grep UUID
. sudo mount /dev/sda4 /mnt
. sudo cat /mnt/etc/fstab
. sudo umount /mnt...

Cool... I can start to play with Gparted.

I discovered very quick this : if I was able to extend the root "down" (making it bigger)it was not possible to "draw" it from the high to reduce it to the original size (I hope you can understand my frenglish).

I did not cry : I decided to create a third partition for w xp.

And I learnt a lot.

Regards.
