Topic: extended partition : creating logical partition

hi,

i have been advised to create a partition for /home. before doing any mistake, could someone please clarify a few things.

here's my current set up:
partition       -   filesys      -   mountpt   - label - size    -  used   - unused -flags
/dev/sda1    -   fat16        -                   -         - 39MiB -  7MiB   - 32MiB   -
/dev/sda2   !-   ntfs          -                   -         - 30GiB -             -              - boot
unallocated -    ext3         -  /boot         - /boot-94MiB -  14MiB  - 80MiB   -
>/dev/sda4  -    extended -                   -         -119GiB-              -              -
  /dev/sda5 !-   unknown  -                   -         -199GiB-              -             - lvm

information for /dev/sda5 is unable to detect filesystem! damaged, unknown or unformatted.
1) i'm wondering why /dev/sda5 is present and if i should delete it. that's the only option avail anyway.
2) what are the next steps i should take in order to create a partition for /home
3) what size would u recommend for /home?

thanks!

It depends on the size of your drive and also of the system you wanna run.
