Topic: Apparently I can't shrink the boot partition...

Hi-

I have installed Ubuntu only to an 80G hard drive, and I wanted to use some of that space to install Windoze to "enslave" Windoze to Ubuntu using VMPlayer to run the Windoze.

What I'm seeing is that onlly 6G of space is used on that partition, but apparently I can't shrink that partition because it's boot.  Or am I wrong?

Or would someone be able to tell me how to back up my settings and "tweaks" in Ubuntu in case it gets blown away?

Thanks.  Hope I don't sound like a noob.

Are you trying to resize a partition that you are using to run your OS right now? Does it have a little "lock" after the partition?

You can't resize a partition that is in use. Use the GParted LiveCD if you are. It doesn't require a hard drive to run.

OK, I can do that.  But can I resize the partition that the boot is on?

Thanks

I don't see any reason why you couldn't. The boot flag will not effect anything.

hi cautious,
Did you try to resize your Boot partition ? I am interested in your results because I would like to do the same thing. Some how my Boot partition is extremely large, 16 GB
