Topic: pendrive unable to format usin gparted, also not mounted in any OS

I have a pen-drive Transcend USB 3.0 with 16 GB storage capacity. It's file system probably corrupted because of improper ejecting out manually while the data was being written. Since then, I have tried inserting that into all 4 usb-ports of my computer(Linux Centos 7), it doesn't mount it. Other pendrives are easily being mounted automatically.

Then, I changed ports and checked if that'd work, but failed. So, I tried formatting it with gparted into ntfs type(previously also it was formatted in ntfs type),but sometimes it doesn't recognise. Once, when Gparted recognised it, I tried formatting, but, I get the following error while formatting:-

Also, I am unable to mount it as /dev/sdb1, it says no such device/file. I tried to achieve some tools in Windows 8 too, but, there also this pen-drive is not being recognised.
This is my first post here, please help me to format my usb-device. Thanks in Advance...

Re: pendrive unable to format usin gparted, also not mounted in any OS

Snippet from the gparted_details.html log file:

Failed to sync device /dev/sdb1: Input/output error

Input/output errors are caused by hardware problems.  These can be a simple as a loose cable, or as serious as a failing drive.  Since you have tried this USB drive in multiple ports, I think that the USB drive is failing or has failed.

In my opinion it is time to look for a replacement USB drive.

Ok, Thanks. I just wanted to confirm before thinking about the replacement. As it is still not detected even after a day, so I think I'll be replacing it with a new one.

Re: pendrive unable to format usin gparted, also not mounted in any OS

Hey, to my surprise, when I took it out today after 10 or so days, and I inserted it in my laptop, it is perfectly being read and written.

Don't know how is it working perfectly, but, it is. I didn't perform any extra tests, just left it for 10 days or so in my bag.

So, the USB device is functioning normally now and also now I can format it into any type, including ntfs...

Re: pendrive unable to format usin gparted, also not mounted in any OS

That is strange behaviour and might imply that the drive is not 100% reliable.
