Topic: gparted-live 0.22.0-2.iso: X does not start

Hello,

I try to boot a Virtualbox virtual machine (on Ubuntu) from gparted-live 0.22.0-2.iso,
but after the keymap and language selection, X does not start.

On the other hand, a virtual machine booted from gparted-live 0.22.0-1.iso reaches the X GParted interface.

Could this be related to the new linux 4 kernel ?

Version: virtualbox 4.3.28-100309

There could be many reasons for the problem you encountered.

You might wish to try some Tips on Booting GParted Live to see if you can get it to work.

All of the following lead to the same screen:

- GParted Live (Safe graphic settings, vga=normal)

- GParted Live(Failsafe mode)

- (in Default settings mode) While booting up, select option "(1) Run 'Forcevideo' to config X manually".

Gparted Live is based on Debian Live, and hence mainly uses packages from that GNU/Linux distribution.

Would you be able to try Debian Live (SID) to see if it boots on your computer?

This will help to determine if upstream Debian Live has the same problem.

I have the same problem as epsicot with VirtualBox 4.1.18 r78361.

Debian Live gnome 8.1 however boots, so does 7.6.

I can't try unstable Live CDs because I cannot find them. Could you suggest a download location? The Debian Live project exposes many directories, but they all look outdated or empty. As I'm not familiar with the project, maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place.

I have Virtual Box 4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.10 and the gparted-live-0.22.0-2-i586.iso image successfully boots to the X GParted interface.  My computer has Intel HD 3000 graphics.

It would appear that .iso images of Debian SID unstable are no longer available.  See How do I install "unstable" ("sid")?

This one boots: debian-live-8.1.0-amd64-gnome-desktop.iso, using Virtualbox 4.3.28-100309.

And gparted-live-0.22.0-2-i586 boots a real machine, with syslinux.

Thanks for reporting this issue. I confirmed this issue is reproducible on my virtualbox machine 4.3. However, it works on VMWare WS 11. Looks like this is graphic card support issue.
Since a new Linux kernel on Debian repository is almost available:

(amd64 is not ready yet at the moment),
I will create another GParted live later when linux-latest 65 is available for amd64 and i386 arch.

I have uploaded GParted live 0.22.0-3 here:

I have applied the patch mentioned on

It is tested on Virtualbox 4.3 and confirmed working.

gparted-live-0.22.0-3-amd64.iso works with Virtualbox 4.3.28-100309

Forgot to specify the GParted version I tested successfully: gparted-live-0.22.0-3-i586.iso.

Thanks Steven for this new image, and thanks epsicot and dive91 for testing.

Unless anyone has strong objections, I'm for leaving this new GParted Live 0.22.0-3 release in the testing branch.

I was having the same problem. New release fixed the problem.
