Topic: Help with bad sectors and screensaver

Hello,

Think this is last chance saloon. I have a 1.5tb hard drive full of data, films an music which is playing up. I have taken it out of my popcorn hour A200 and plugged it into my desktop drive. Its got bad sectors on it. It freezes up and its not copying files when I try and copy them in windows file manager using Paragon ExtFS.

I am able to run Gparted live cd, however when I run Gparted it freezes up is there anyway to turn off the screen saver firstly?

I am not confident with linux code so I followed this guide for the line command in the terminal...it started and finished but I still have bad sectors. http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/index.php/Fsck

I used the command line fsck -yvf /dev/sda4

I'd rather use the GUI, if I can turn off screensaver. Any help would be most appreciated.

Re: Help with bad sectors and screensaver

Which version of GParted Live are you running?

As far as I know, the latest versions do not include a screen saver.

You can look for any BIOS power-save feature, too.
