Topic: same old "fatal error: no screens found"

Hi everyone.
I'm trying to boot GParted 0.16.1-1 liveUSB on my ASUS K75VJ-TY005H. These are the main technical specifications:

CPU: Intel Core i7 3610QM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M
Memory: 8GB DDR3 SDRAM

Obviously, it comes with Win8 and it features the EFI system, therefore I'm using the "amd64" GParted version.

I've tried to follow every tip i found in "Tips on Booting GParted Live" and in other posts on this forum, running "Forcevideo" and switching among the various options for resolution, driver and color depth (sad to say, without almost any awareness of what I was doing), but I always got to the same point: "fatal error: no screens found".
I've tested the other GParted versions (i468, i386), even the older ones (0.14, 0.15) but it didn't seem to change a thing.

How can I manage to get through it? Can someone help me to find clues or logical connection between my hardware and the option i should choose in forcevideo? Perhaps, Isn't even this the way I have to follow?

Thanks in advance.

GParted Live is based on Debian Live.  Can you try the latest upstream Debian Live to see if it works with your hardware?

If yes, then the problem is in GParted Live.  If no, then the problem is common to upstream Debian Live.

I would suggestion trying the XFCE .iso.

Re: same old "fatal error: no screens found"

Thank you for your reply. I followed your advice and tried both the gnome-based and the xfce-based Debian Live versions. The results are that the second one boots and works properly, while the first one, though it seems to boot and load the desktop envionment without any problem, reports in a pop-up box this error message:

"gnome 3 failed to load
unfortunately gnome 3 failed to stard properly and started in the fallback mode
this most likely means your system (graphics hardware or driver) is not capable of delivering the full gnome 3 experience."

but still allowed me to continue working and even to try applications.

Does that mean something interesting? What shoud I do now?

If the XFCE Debian Live version works, then perhaps we need to make some changes in the GParted Live image.  I will forward this to our Live maintainer.

Re: same old "fatal error: no screens found"

@gab,
I have created GParted live 0.16.1-4 based on the latest packages in Debian Sid repository.
So it comes with newer Linux kernel (3.9), and updated X drivers.
Could you please give testing it a try?
Please let us know the results.
Thanks.

Steven.
