Topic: Development Plans for the Next Release of GParted (0.14.1)

With the next release of GParted (0.14.1) we plan to work on enhancements and bug fixes.

GParted (0.14.1) is planned for release December 12, 2012.

Candidates under consideration for GParted 0.14.1 include:

Vladimir Panteleev has provided a patch.  Further testing is required.


With the 1.0.0 release of GParted we plan to work on preparing GParted to work with GNOME 3.0.
The release will become 1.0.0 if and when we drop support for the gtkmm-2.4 API.  The plan with the first few releases is to maintain compatibility with both gtkmm-2.4 and gtkmm-3.0.

Candidates under consideration for GParted 1.0.0 include:

no - Bug 652044 - uses deprecated APIs
Colin Watson has created an initial patch.  More development work and testing is required.
Curtis Gedak is working on this enhancement.

Sirs,

Any plan for UEFI partition system and GUID Partition Table (GPT) ? Gparted (I have 0.12 CD) shows msftres as an unknown partition with a warning triangle in front of the partition. Should be obliged for any advice.

GParted does support GUID Partition Tables (GPT).

Are you experiencing difficulty creating or modifying partitions in a GPT?

Unknown partitions are ones in which the format of the file system in the partition is unknown to GParted.

Do you know what file system or format is contained in your "unknown partition"?

If so, what free tool(s) did you use to determine the format?

A patchset to address Bug 685656 - GParted doesn't notice when file system label is changed to blank has been committed to the git repository.

A patchset to address Bug 683149 - Cleanup(?): Remove lp_device and lp_disk from GParted_Core has been committed to the git repository.  Thanks to Matthias Gehre for this patch set.

A patch set to address Bug 678379 - Could not stat device /dev/md/0 - No such file or directory has been committed to the git repository for inclusion in the next release of GParted (0.14.1) on December 12, 2012.

This patch set has already been listed in the preliminary release notes in post #9.
