Topic: Power off while Moving a Partition

hi there

i have a WD green 1TB hard drive..it had 2 partitions on it, one small 80Gb partition at the start, followed by a large 860 gb partition..

recently i wanted to get rid of the smaller partition so i deleted it, and i am now moving the larger partition to the H.D.D header to make the whole H.D.D one big partition..

now the problem is, we lose power frequently here where i live..and the process still needs 3 more hours to be completed..what happens to my data (Very valuable data) if i lose power while moving the partition (note that the partition is only a data partition..it has no operating System on it)

thanks, hope there is something i can do to save my data if i lose power..

EDIT: forgot to mention..i am using the live CD

Re: Power off while Moving a Partition

If the computer loses power while moving a partition, the file system will be left in a broken state.  Unfortunately it will be very difficult to recover from this situation because it will take along time to determine where the move failed so that the remaining sectors can be moved.
