Topic: Live CD 0.12.1-1 doesn't boot

Hi,

I've burned the 0.12.1-1 image (checksum = OK) on my HP ze4310EA/ 960Mb RAM (about 10 years old).
I use an external CD drive to burn & boot.
The start screen comes up allright but all of the possible selections end up with an enormous long list of error messages like:
- modprobe: module not found in modules.dep
or
.... unaligned transfer
Finally it dies on me with "This debian live image failed to boot".

I thought I'd try to download the .zip file to installon on a USB stick but I cannot locate it anywhere since only the .iso image seems to be offered.

Thanks in advance,
MM

Maybe this is kernel or packages regression.
How about giving older version a try?
E.g. http://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted … /0.12.0-5/

Steven.

Re: Live CD 0.12.1-1 doesn't boot

Thank you for your reply.

I suspect problems in the area of my system being incompatible with the latest linux distributions (or vice versa).
Mine is a mobile AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.52GHz 960 Mb RAM.
None of the latest versions of Ubuntu or Lubuntu live CDs will boot completely, stopping at

(initramfs) unable to find the medium containing a live file system.

I know this ain't the forum to dig further into the preceeding issue, but with all the trouble I am having, I'm just giving up trying my hand at linux.

iso and zip versions are together in the sourceforge download pages. Please, go to the download option in the main GParted site and select
"Download stable releases (.iso/.zip)"
You can select there the latest version (actually 0.12.1-1) or go to "Old files" to select some of the previous versions.

I would suggest the same as Steven, try the previous version (0.12.0-5), if you don't need especially some feature on the latest one. There are reports by other users too for this latest live version.

Re: Live CD 0.12.1-1 doesn't boot

It takes 2 to tango ...

Since years my PC refuses to boot from CD-ROM (although I can read files from the drive).
But I am able to boot from an external drive (via a USB 1 connection for booting, via a PCMCIA/USB 2 card to burn). Not the latest technological cry, but good enough for me.

As suggested, I have burned Gparted 0.12.0-5 (with Nero) and I got the same problem as initially reported.
I thought, well, let's try booting from the native CD-ROM drive. Sure enough, Windows came up as the drive was ignored.
So, I burned a second copy (with Deepburner this time to check a possible Nero defect) and booted from the external drive.
Problem solved !
Why ?
Well ... since the first copy of the CD was still present in the native drive and since apparently all subsequent I/O from the boot process addresses the native drive rather than the one used to boot from, the live file system was available!
This would also explain also why my linux live CDs won't load properly either.

It would be interesting to know whether this explanation might help other users of external boot devices ...

Cheers,
MM
