Topic: GParted LiveCD 0.10.0-3 freezes at keyboard selection on old P-II
Greetings all, Linux a "newbie+" here. I am trying a fresh install of Zorin 5.0 Lite (x32) on an OLD HP Pavilion 8260 with 192MB SDRAM and a freshly wiped W.D. HDD.
Yes, I know, I like challenges...
I D/L'd & burnt the latest GParted LiveCD 0.10.0-3 .iso and tested it on two newer machines. The .iso is fine.
I am having a BIG problem making it past the keymap selection screen on the 8260, that's where the computer freezes, or the keyboard stops working. My U.S. PS2 keyboard works fine up until the keymap screen, and then it quits responding and I can't select any options at all. No ENTER, no arrow keys, nothing... It's like the BIOS driver disappears altogether.
Now, I don't know if the computer is actually frozen at that point because, of course, there is no mouse availability for the keymap screen, and the keyboard is not responding, so... any ideas?
* Now then, I will post-script this by saying I can get GParted 0.7.0 to work, from inside the Zorin LiveCD, but I am wanting to know why the newer version of GParted won't work. Most of the forum posts I have read here and other places say' "Get the newer version..."; but that doesn't work for me, and I want to learn why as I work on alot of old machines for folks. Anybody know something obvious?
Thanks all,
Happy Holidays! -C.R.
