Topic: Failing to boot on Dell Latitude E5520 (Laptop)

I've downloaded the ISO image and burned it to CD, reordered the boot order in the laptop BIOS to prefer CD first to the HDD (third or fourth in sequence), and the laptop continuously reboots.

So... Question. I want to add another partition to the machine in order to install XP on a clean partition and leave the existing Windows 7 install intact.

If gparted will not work for the machine, can anyone recommend a satisfactory substitute?

Actually, since we are partitioning from Windows 7 out of the box, there's a Device Manager Disk Management feature called Shrink apparently which will do the trick.

Since the vista edition, mswindows contain a resizing tool for the partitions. It works for the filesystems used by mswindows (i.e. no Linux partitions).


It is possible that the download was broken, especially if you don't get the boot menu. We recommend to check the md5 sum of the downloaded file, to be sure that it is good.
Please, be sure that the BIOS setup is well done to boot from cd/dvd. I don't know the exact setup for the specific computer.

Furthermore, I have to remind that you have to burn the ISO file as "image" , not just as data file.

Another option to use GParted, is the System Rescue LiveCd. It is based on the Gentoo Linux, instead of Debian for the recent GParted Live versions.

I would like to ask whether anyone knows about dell 5520 laptop. There card is listed as compatible with routerboard hardware.
