Topic: Expanding ext4 partition without losing data

Hi,

I have 2 partitions for my linux.

1) 50 GB ext4
2) 4 GB swap

I want to resize swap to 1GB and expand ext4 partition by 3 GB.

Is is possible to resize ext4 without losing data ?

I tried GParted application but I found "Move/Resize" disabled even if I have 3 GB unallocated space.

Help me out.

Re: Expanding ext4 partition without losing data

Yes it is possible to resize ext4 file systems without losing data.

The unallocated space must be adjacent to the partition that you wish to grow.

I highly recommend that you back up your data before editing partition tables or resizing file systems regardless of which partition editing software you use.  This is just in case something goes wrong due to software bugs, hardware failures, or power outages.
