Topic: SOLVED - Cannot exit or close Gparted

Hi all,

I use Gparted live cd and usb, both with Gparted 0.8.1-3.
It works well but i'm unable to exit or to close Gparted(by double-clicking on the Exit icon).
The only solution is to power off my laptop which is an Acer Aspire 5101.
Can someone show me the way?
Thanks in advance.

What is supposed to happen is that when you double click the exit icon a dialog should pop up indicating options such as reboot or shutdown.

Perhaps this dialog is behind another window?

Nothing! (i can't reduce the windows to see if there is a dialog pop up as you said).
I can't even open the tray to retrieve the disk, as i said the only option is to power off.
I passed this afternoon to read  all the topics of forum with the hope that i could find some situations as mine.
Anyway, it works well, can regconize all the partitions of my DD and all the usb.
Thank for your answer and have a nice weekend.

Re: SOLVED - Cannot exit or close Gparted

This is certainly unusual.  I have used GParted Live on an Acer Aspire One netbook and did not encounter the problem you mention.

If you open a terminal window, you could issue a shutdown command, but that still doesn't explain the behaviour you experienced.

Certainly, i'am sure it's an unsual behaviour that why i searched for a while on the net before coming here.
Trouble is that i can't open anything from the screen! I know if i can open a terminal windows, i could do something and if you can't give me an answer, i don't know whoelse could?

Do you mean that some parts stay out of the screen space (not visible) ?
If so, you could try to boot with an alternative boot option with a resolution of 1024x768 or perhaps higher. This resolution can display enything.

From the graphics screen, you can terminate X (the graphical screen system in Linux) by pressing Control+Alt+Bckspace. This will bring you to the terminal, from where you can power your system off or reboot.

Furthermore, you can use the command
sudo Forcevideo
to start GParted with manual selection of graphics driver and resolution. VESA and 1024x768 are usual "safe" options.

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***

[SOLVED]Cannot exit or close Gparted

Hi class413,

Thanks a lot for your answer, i didn't try your suggestions. However, i ran Gparted again and at last found out that if i use a right click on its screen, i get a pop up windows with all options to get out, exit or shutdown. I should try it first!

Again thank you and also to gedakc for some answers as soon as my question posted.

Have a nice night(it's 11h00PM where i live).

Thank you for reporting back with the solution you discovered to this problem.   smile

I have edited your initial post to prefix "SOLVED" in front of the title.  This can help others when they are searching for answers to questions.
