Topic: Partition resize is very slow

Hi guys,

yesterday i wanted to enlarge a 1,4TB partition on a 1,5TB harddisk to the complete 1,5TB.
The 1,4TB partition is used with 500GB of data.
GPartedLive is actually nearly 12 hrs working with copying and the information says that it would take other 8 hrs to finish the resize.

Is it normal that GParted works so slow??
And is it possible to cancel the operation without losing the data?

Thanks for your help.

If a move operation is involved (the left hand side of the partition is changed), then yes it can take an extremely long time, especially with a partition as large as 1.4 TB.

Which version of GParted did you use?

If GParted is copying the data (suggesting a move, and not just a resize operation), then there is high likelihood of data loss if you cancel the operation.  Resize only operations are usually quick.

Re: Partition resize is very slow

I think that there’s too much data need to move in your hard disk when resizing. When the program is moving the data, the speed would be slow. After you finish moving the data, the speed will be faster. If the progress bar is moving forward, please wait for longer.
