Which version of the livecd are you running, please ?
There is no network tool on the livecd, it only runs localy.
gparted-livecd-0.3.3-5.iso
so could you please contact me on irc ?
The problem you have is not difficult to solve, but it is easier to fdrive you online...
In two words, if you know :
you just have to edit xorg.conf file and change the video driver to vesa. then run startx again and all is okay.
thanks - I'll try that a bit later on tonight
BTW, i have just fixed this problem with video card. Maybe you could give it a try. It is released as beta, but i only changed the mkxf86config file. So if you want...
It will be uploaded asap, there : http://gparted.free.fr

i've got
cat -n /etc/X11/xorg.conf I get
173 Driver "vesa"
and the same error on doing startx
Hm, this is bad ! Do you think one of those drivers should work for you :
http://sourceforge.net/project/shownote … _id=115843
i guess i should add s3 and sis ...
Same problem here on two computers. One with trident and one with s3.
Editing xorg.conf and changing to vesa worked. Before reading this post, I tried vga and that did not work.
If the autoconfig sets up xorg.conf for s3 or trident (which it does) shouldn't those drivers be included? Surely they aren't that large.
Also, on the s3 machine (Soyo motherboard with Via chipset, Maxtor 30GB IDE drive) GParted shows a warning on the partitions "Unable to read the contents of this filesystem".
On the trident machine, I resized/moved all partitions on a drive that had and ntfs, swap, reiser and ext3 partitions. No problems. Windows had to reboot a couple of times of course.
Hope this helps. Nice utility which is sorely needed. Keep up the good work!
I forgot to mention that the partitions on the s3 machine with warnings were fat32.
They are the only partitions on that drive.
