Topic: Problems Booting GParted [SOLVED]
Hi, I am very new to Gparted and Linux, so please be kind.
I am building a new system with the POV NVidia Atom MB, 2x1GB Kingston DDR2, and 1TB Seagate HDD.
Due to a possible initial configuration problem, I decided to completely repartition and reformat the HDD. Initially I did not have a DVD-RW drive, but have now installed an ATA DVD-RW via a SATA converter. (No IDE on MB!)
Downloaded the GParted Live 0.5.2-1 version iso and copied to DVD using Imgburn. The DVD works on the old desktop, but will not fully boot from the DVD drive in the new system. It goes into an endless loop in Default mode with messages such as:
Emask 0x1 (device error)
ata 3.00:status {DRDY ERR}
sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical blocks 0-8
(This is not a full nor literal list)
Figured the problem must be the ATA-SATA converter, as Linux system may have a problem without adding SATA drivers. My abilities did not run to editing the run defaults, so attempted the failsafe mode with similar though slightly different results.
Next I tried using a USB key by loading the iso onto a newly FAT32 formatted key with Unetbootin. It booted and went to a further point, without a continuous loop, but error messages too numerous to convey:
error_code +0x6b/0x70
oop_end +0x88/0x8d
no_context +0x104/0x10d
_bad_area_nosemaphore
MPBIOS-trigger
handle_mm_fault
As there is no working system on the drive, I need to use some bootable media using Dos, Linux or similar. I have an old version of BARTPE and UBCD but I'd prefer a simple partitioning/formatting tool, rather than updating either of those. GParted looked as if it would suit my purposes.
Any ideas where the problem lays? Any suggestion what to try next?
Thanks for any assistance
