Topic: resizing takes forever...

im just wondering when should a resizing operation on a windows xp partition of 232.88 GiB to 156.96GiB be finished. I have been waiting now for more than 4 hours. This seems to me as a really really long time. It says that it is working on the "real resize". So i guess it is doing something but since the feedback barchart just moves right to left, i cant really tell how much of the operation hes been completed. any idea how long this should usually take?

what happens if i cancel these operations?

cheers

Re: resizing takes forever...

It is highly recommended that you do not cancel the operations midstream.  If you do then you will most likely be left with a file system in an inconsistent state.  In other words you will be at high risk of losing your data.

These operations can take from hours to days to complete depending on the size of the disk drive, the speed of the interface, the structure of the file system, and especially whether a move operation is involved.
