Topic: Blank screen when booting off gparted USB

Hi,

I'm trying to use the gparted live media to resize partitions on a Dell E6500 laptop with the integrated Intel X4500HD video card.  When I do the USB boot on the laptop to gparted, I get a white screen and cannot see the boot menu.

If I press tab or an arrow key, the box outlining the boot menu suddenly appears and scrolls off the top of the screen.  If I press the Enter key, I get a prompt asking "Password required", pressing Enter again results in the menu box appearing and scrolling off the top of the screen.  Further keypresses appear to do nothing until the keypress buffer fills up and the laptop starts beeping at me with every keypress.

I've tried gparted 0.4.4 (the version I had to hand) and 0.4.6 (just downloaded) with the same result.  Any hints or clues about how I can get around this problem?

Thanks!

Re: Blank screen when booting off gparted USB

Newer versions might resolve this problem.  Unfortunately these newer versions suffer from a problem with informing the kernel of partition changes.

Hence you are advised to either use a different Live distribution, such as System Rescue CD, or to wait until GParted-Live-0.5.1-1 is released sometime after Jan 25, 2010.
