Topic: Running GParted Live 0.4.5-3 from CD

I just downloaded the actual release GParted-Live 0.4.5-3 and burned it on a CD. After resetting the system (Acer Aspire 1350 with Windows XP) to boot from CD the initial start of booting from CD worked very well - chosen option: default setting.

The screen now shows:
Loading /live/vmlinuz1.....
Loading /live/initrd1.img......

and now since approximately one hour the CD-drive seems to run  in a step-by-step mode and the hard disk is also operating (LED is on), but no changes are visible on the screen.

I would very much appreciate if somebody could let me know whether this is normal or whether I should interrupt the process by taking the CD ouf of the drive.

Many thanks for your help and best regards

Klaus

I have had that exact thing happen many times. Something was wrong with the CDRW and simply using a new one allowed it to boot properly.

Dear Patrick,

many thx for the hint.

Meanwhile I have had some trials with partedmagic. The installation went very well, but the start of the partition editor seems not to work at all.

Could you perhaps let me know which process need to show up in the list of processes which indicates that the partition editor has started.

Many thanks and best regards

Klaus

PS: Please let me know whether I would have to move to the forum of PartedMagic.

Probably would be a good idea. I was attempting to help the GParted folks out by answering a forum question, not polluting it with Parted Magic problems. tongue

Sorry, for using the wrong forum.

Meanwhile GParted is running - after having chosen the default setting during boot with Parted Magic. Now the software is copied to RAM and running from there properly. It seems that my CD-drive is not always working properly enough.

There are still some questions to answer, but first I will try to find the answers in the other threads.

I have to point out that GParted-Live 0.4.5-3 is currently a "testing" version. You can start with the latest "stable" version 0.4.5-2, unless you need some newer feature.
