Topic: can't boot from livecd -- freezes after initrd

After gparted didn't recognize my raid partition when running on the ubuntu 7.10 x64 livecd, I thought I'd try gparted on its own livecd. Problem is that it never boots. I tried several of the boot options at the top but all of them result in nothing happening after the following lines:
...
initrd /boot/gparted.igz
   [Linux-initrd @ 0x1fc5e000, 0x391147 bytes]

I have an Asus P5B motherboard with Intel Core Duo processors and 4GB RAM.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you try the "VESA" option?
Do you stay on text screen or in the graphics (x) screen?
Anyway, with the P5B motherboard, I had no problem to boot with the 0.3.4-5 version, although I had some problems with 0.3.4-7 and 0.3.4-8.

Re: can't boot from livecd -- freezes after initrd

In the end I was able to shrink my NTFS partition as follows:
1. I booted using the ubuntu 7.10 live dvd
2. Ubuntu wouldn't recognize my raid drives until I installed the 'dmraid' package
3. gparted still wouldn't let me shrink the ntfs partition even after installing 'dmraid'
4. After install 'dmraid' then I used 'ntfsresize' on the command line which worked fine
