Topic: Windows not recognizing correct partition size

Hi all,

I used gparted (via ubuntu fiesty fawn) to resize a windows partition and now, even though several disk analyzers have reported that the size is 50GB, windows sees it as 26GB.  I saw a post here that said updating the partition table fixed this problem, but I haven't found exactly how to do this.

I've run chkdsk /F a few times to no avail.

Apparently you use fdisk to update the partition table, but I didn't see an "update partition table" option in fdisk.

Re: Windows not recognizing correct partition size

Did you the necessary reboots immediately after the resizing?

I know there was an undocumented option /mbr in FDISK program, in msdos 5, to fix the MBR in the sector 0 of the disk. In XP, there is another command to do this. It is "fixmbr" and is accessible through the Recovery Console. I don't know however if this command can fix that type of error. It overwrites the mbr to make bootable a disk with damaged boot code.

It would be better to use any disk utility, to diagnose partition and filesystem problems.
There are some partition recovery programs, like:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TestDisk
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gpart (nothing to do with gparted ? )
(I never used them myself however).
