it crashes

I think 32MB RAM is too low to support the graphic environment.
I have a problem even in a 64MB computer (I don't know if this comes from a lack of RAM, I still have no answer about this).

Parted magic will run on 32mb of ram. Pick the lowmem option from the boot menu (first menu) and then Xvesa from the "extra boot options menu (second menu)". Then when you get to the part for your screen config pick 16 for the color depth and 600x800 for the screen res.

I have in mind another solution, to connect the disk to another computer with bigger ram, do the partitioning there, and then put it back to the original computer. This is easier with a desktop but don't know about laptop computers (sometimes they use non standard hardware).
