Topic: VISTA HOME PREMIUM - need to change sizes

Have been through the posts and it is not quite clear to if GParted can do what I would like to do.

The machine has only the above O/S on it, and the 320 Gb HD is divided into

C:\ 20 Gb
D:\ 138 Gb
E:\ the balance

The plan is to increase C:\ by 10 Gb to 30 Gb by
reducing the size of E:\

Am I able to do this with GParted on a pure Vista PC please?

Please, go to the following link in the "livecd" forum:

You don't tell what is the filesystem of each of your partitions is. Are they all used by vista?

Re: VISTA HOME PREMIUM - need to change sizes

There is only Vista Home Premium on the machine, the HDD is partitioned
into 3 partitions which Vista sees as C:\, D:\ and E:\

I had already looked at the link you supplied and it seemed to me to be
relevant to a situation where somebody has multiple OSes, one of
which is Vista on one of the partitions.

My case is a sole OS which is on C:\ which needs to be increased
using some of E:\

The end result is that C:\ would be bigger than it is now, while
on the other hand E:\ would be smaller by the corresponding
amount

Re: VISTA HOME PREMIUM - need to change sizes

The fact that there is only one O.S. , I think makes things less complicated. Anyway, the main question is how to assure that vista remain bootable after resizing.

Of all 3 partitions, only one is vista boot partition (C:). D: and E: are they data partitions? In that case you could begin by shrinking E: , next moving D: to the right in the unallocated space, and finally expand C: .

I think it's better to do these steps one at the time, do all necessary "repairs", reboots and checks after each step before the next step. But I never did that in a vista computer, so it's better to wait other members' experience too!
