[closed] Logical/Primary partition convertion

my current need is basically the same as OP: i need an additional primary partition but have 4 already.  I wish i could simply "wrap" an extended partition around two of the existing partitions.  the ability to do the reverse, i.e., "liberate" the first or last logical partition in an extended partition by changing the start/end point of the enclosing extended partition, would be just as useful.  naturally, i'd want neither of these to involve data movement.  I tried to do this by hand but i just made a big mess and ended up doing it the hard way (backups + partition edits + restore).
