an error I don't know how do deal with

I have a Compaq Presario V2000. after booting from Gparted live CD (latest version [.2.5-4] ), I went to resize the main partition (for windows. it has a smaller restoration fat32 part). However, it would not let me resize it. when at looked at the information for that part, it had this error:

Couldn't mount device '/dev/hda1' : Input/output error

also, I told it to skip extra boot options at the beginning.
