Topic: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

Hi Everyone, first post here... the above is a message I get when I boot the computer from the livecd...  I used image burn to burn this, and I also tried loading S and D, and M and D during the livecd install during boot.

Basically, the cd starts just fine, and even brings up then welcome screen.
After I hit ENTER, it begins loading the devices.
After a few seconds, the loading extra modules screen flies by, and the program continues to load.
Finally, after a minute or two, I hit enter and get "No Gparted Live CD found!!!" and this is followed by "Kernel Panic-not syncing:  attempted to kill init."

So, then I hit the reset button on my computer, and I get a slightly different error message.
I get a continuous loop that displays this:
drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: input irq status-75 received.

Needless to say I never get the UI up in the screen.

My system: GIGABYTE GA-965P-PQ6 P695, INTEL Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz , 2 gig ddr2 667mhz buffalo ram, 1 x 160 gig baracuda sata hd, eVGA e-GeForce 7900 GT KO PCI Express 256MB DDR3 Graphics

Thanks for looking into this.

Hi !
I guess the video will make some problem, but maybe svga will work.
You didnt mention any cdrom drive in your hardware ... :-p
Did you try first without loading any additional modules ?

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

If you have time and will, you could try to download and burn the actual INSERT iso distro, which is 59.5 mo and contains the last gparted.
but first try to see if gparted livecd boots without loading any modules, please.

Hi Larry, thanks for your thoughts.  I did try loading it without any modules to no avail.
Also, and I'm glad you brought it up, but my cd is a cdrw/dvd by LG.  Also, it has a SATA connection.  It's NOT a dvd burner, just a reader.

Lastly, where would I find the INSERT iso?

Thanks again.

This is my cdrw:

Also, I tried INSERT, with no luck.  Here is the error:  Can't find insert filesystem, sorry.

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

One last item:
I'm a mindless noob.
Aside from that, I have a friend that knows a bit about this:
He said that he thought the linux kernel used for both insert and livecd were based on 2.6.17.  Apparently, 2.6.17 has some known issues regarding SATA cd drives.
For reference:
The ata_piix SATA driver grabs ownership over the IDE ports when it is loaded, but (by default) does not support PATA ATAPI devices such as the Ultrabay optical drives. Thus, if the ide driver is compiled as a module and loaded after ata_piix, the DVD drive will not be recognized by either driver.

I have an ide cd rom, but don't have the motivation to try it tonight.  I'll report back results however, first chance I get.

Yeah, i know kernel 2.6.17 get some issue regarding sata.
you also may try to copy livecd to any partition and boot it off of hd.

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

I'm having the same problem but I have a Gigabyte DS3, so I'm thinking it must be the new 965 chipset that is causing this problem.

Anyone find out some solutions?

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

I just tried a IDE to USB converter and the same error message still comes up. Now I have no idea how to fix it. O well......

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

ditto on this same problem with Gigabyte DS3.  Any solutions?

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

soon we will upgrade the kernel on the livecd and see if that makes any difference.

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

Ahh, it is the new chipset.  Same problem with installing Suse.  I guess the motherboard doesn't support p-ata natively and use a certain J-Micron chip to supply it and the drivers for this chip do not work correctly.  My guess is that it would work fine from sata.

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

Hi!

I have same problem. I have 4-yr old Compaq Presario 900 laptop with ide CDROM drive.

Live cd 0.3.3 boots, but it stucks and reports 'No Gparted Live CD found!'

I had same problem with debian netinst 3.1 r4, where debian booted by default to 2.4.x kernel.
Then I booted to 2.6.x kernel, and debian found cdrom drive.

Which manual boot options I should select with Gparted-live-CD?

I looked for /var/log/ folder for error messages, but it is not there.

CDROM drive is hl-dt-st rw/dvd gcc-4240n.

Thanks,

Antti

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

Thanks,

I try that. It seems Gparted live-CD 0.3.3 has kernel 2.6.17.
Is the problem there?

My laptop boots to 2.6.8 with debian distro and to 2.6.12 with knoppix distro.

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

Hi!

I tried Parted Magic live-CD v1.0 and System Rescue live-CD v0.3.0, but unfortunately they enter to same problem: 'Could not find CDROM to boot'.

I have IDE harddrive and IDE CD-RW/DVD.

Motherboard chipset is ATI Radeon IGP-320 and IDE controller is ALiM5229.

How I can save kernel messages and post here?

Thanks,

Antti

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

see http://gparted.sourceforge.net/larry/ti … etails.htm for information on how to get files from the live environment to the world smile

Re: Error message: No Gparted Live CD found!!!

Thanks, but I can't go so far with live-CD. Gparted never starts, so there is no gparted_details.html.
This a booting problem with 2.6.17-> kernels and ATA/IDE CDROM drive.

I need to save kernel messages, which are displayed during the boot. I search for /var/log/, but there is nothing.
