Topic: How To Move A Partition - Space Needed?
I am unable to move the recovery partition on a Windows 10 VM. Do I need the exact amount of space to the left of the OS partition in order to move the recovery partition?

1. To move a partition to the left there must be unallocated space immedately to it's left.
2. To move a partition to the right there must be unallocates apace immedately to it's right.
3. A recovery partition will have unrecognised content in GParted, so you must use GParted >= 0.33.0 to include "Support copying and moving of unsupported partition content".

How would I be able to move the recovery partition to the left of the boot drive?

It is not possible to move a partition past another. Instead use copy paste, then delete.
