Topic: Gparted for SSD GPT partition

I want to partition a 180GB SSD(Intel 330) for / of 25GB /home of /50GB , /100GB for backups and /boot(may be needed?). since I want to install Linux only, I am going for GPT partitioning. would like to know if gparted will create 128MB free spaces between each partition? Also, my drive is once secure erased since it is always showing "frozen" if booted with my computer. I plan to connect the drive after BIOS to continue installation. please suggest a partitioning  method.

Re: Gparted for SSD GPT partition

Hi,

By default GParted creates partitions aligned to 1 MiB boundaries.  If you want 128 MiB space between each partition you will have to enter 128 into the Free space preceding (MiB) field in the Create new Partition dialog.  Why do you want 128 MiB between each partition?

For Linux you also need swap space.  Linux installers can partition a hard drive and allow it to be adjusted before performing the installation.  Take the default your Linux distribution of choice offers and adjust to add a /backup partition.

Thanks,
Mike
