Topic: BitMap Fragmentation Error

Using GParted Live 13 with Windows Vista. I have two NTFS partitions. One seems to load fine in the GPArted app, but the other has a yellow exclaimtion point. under information, it states something to the effect that $Bitmap is too fragmented and that GParted may need the ntfs-3g library. That isn't the exact wording of the error, but i hope its clear enough (I'm not sure how to save the details using the Live CD.) Anyway, I ran ChkDsk /f /r and defragmented the drive in safe mode using MyDefrag but am still getting the error in GParted.

Re: BitMap Fragmentation Error

Before booting GParted, are you using the Windows shut down feature, or simply powering off?

If an operating system is not shut down properly, then the file system can be left in an inconsistent state.

Also could you provide the exact text of the message?

Re: BitMap Fragmentation Error

Thank you for the response. Because I needed to get this job done, I ended-up using another partition manager but I will try to answer your questions as best I can. Yes, I am properly shutting down windows. I don't recall the exact wording, but it was something to the effect of "not able to handle highly fragmented $Bitmap" and it suggested I verify I have the appropriate libraries, specifically NTFS-3G.

Also, for what its worth, this partition is on a RAID-1 using Intel Rapid Storage (or Matrix Storage, or whatever Intel calls it this week.)

Re: BitMap Fragmentation Error

Since you have already discovered a different solution to your problem I won't spend more time on this post.

If you encounter this problem in the future, please provide the extra details requested.
