Topic: Trouble Partitioning TB Hard Drive

I have a 1TB SATA hard drive connected via a converter to my IDE computer. I have had ubuntu on for awhile, but i wanted to get my computer ready for windows 7, which i recently got because windows has no real partitioning abilities. I am using my old faithful ubuntu 10.04 livedisk, and gparted on it. Yesterday i started the partitioning, (8 hours) and it has only managed to check the filesystem for errors.

any help?

Re: Trouble Partitioning TB Hard Drive

For the best performance it is recommended to use the proper interface for the drive.  I do not have experience with SATA to IDE converters, but I suspect that these are not as fast as a SATA connection.

If a long time is required to check the file system then that implies that perhaps the computer was not shutdown properly and that the file system is in an inconsistent state.  Be sure to properly shutdown the computer before performing any partition editing.  Also I highly recommend that you backup all of your data in case something goes wrong.

It was doing something, and it finally finished. It took 23 hours to do it, but it did. Yes, i researched the IDE to SATA thing, and it does significantly reduce the data transfer speed, thanks for the help gedakc.
