Topic: X config help

I have been wasting a lot of time trying to configure debian on my Dell Optiplex999.
I always end up with a blank screen but with GPartedLive it works fine.

Could anyone here assist me in getting the X setup used by your wonderful GParted into my Debian setup
so it can work ok?

Now that Grub has changed I can not work out where to put configuration parameters or which ones I need
and I can't track down the relevant info that clearly works perfectly in GParted...i915 ? i815 ? modeset ? vga=?

I guess I am getting old...

infinitely grateful for any assistance

and thanks to all for the efforts put into this stuff

Re: X config help

You can read up on the GParted Live documentation on the web site.  Since GParted Live is based on Debian Live so you might wish to look there too.

Re: X config help

Thanks for the comment....but that is where I am running around in circles.
Debian-live will not work on the Optiplex990 but GParted-live does work.

Can anyone here give any help?

Re: X config help

Maybe the difference is GParted live is based on Debian Sid, and your Debian is stable (squeeze)?
BTW, did you compare the syslinux/syslinux.cfg on GParted live with your grub config? You can try to have some boot parameters in your grub config.

Steven.

thanks for that - found the syslinux.cfg file. I have tried the various boot options used by GParted...

Perhaps the xorg drivers in SID are the things I want.
I will attempt that route...

I have put a message on the xorg lists to see if anything appears there.

I think the Optiplex990 is the latest so this issue will be faced by others

thanks

result?  total fail...
just too messy to find a working arrangement and I do not have the time.
so back to MS - bah! I am not pleased.

I'm using Optiplex 990 too but so far I didn't have these problems (fortunately)
