Topic: USB Booting error: Non-System disk or disk error

Hello,

I tried to find an answer to this issue on the forum, and couldn't find a proper one.

I have a cd-rom-less HP Mini laptop, and I have dual boot: Ubuntu and Windows 7.

I can boot from other USB sticks, but I cannot boot from the image file gparted-live-stable-0.8.0-5.iso. I wrote the image file using tuxboot.

I tried on a desktop machine and the bootable USB stick worked OK.

The message I see is Non-System disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready.

The laptop has booting from USB setup as the first boot device and I tested it with a kubuntu live cd, so it works. It's just GParted i suppose.

Any feedback on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Did you follow the instructions in the documentation page?
Did you try the zip file?

Hello class413, yes. I mentioned above that I wrote the image file using tuxboot. Please advise if any solution exists.

Re: USB Booting error: Non-System disk or disk error

If the created USB flash drive boots on another desktop machine, then the issue should be on your HP Mini laptop. It might not support the USB booting very well, or you hit a bug.
Try to upgrade the BIOS and test it again.
Or give GParted live 0.8.1-3 a try. It has been released in the testing branch.

Steven.

Re: USB Booting error: Non-System disk or disk error

In the BIOS boot sequence, try giving your removable disk media priority above other media, and give the USB flash drive removable media containing the image priority above other removable media.
