Topic: gparted opening failure

Hello, here is the problem: when I open gparted it looks after my partitions and suddenly closes after a couple of seconds.

I used several versions: gparted0.7.3 on Cd, gpartedlive 0.8.5 on USB and parted magic on USB. All iso are ok.
There is one disk with Windows 7 and a logical partition, then free space which I want to use to have unix onto.

I have used Windows 7 partition manager to add my logical partition. Maybe there is no relation with this, but since it is impossible to get Gparted working.

Thank you for helping me.

Re: gparted opening failure

Do you mean that the GParted programme is closing? ... the operating system shutting down? rebooting?
I understand that it must be related to the hardware.

Did you try to use the alternate boot options?
If the graphical screen closes, you can try to launch GParted by the command
sudo Forcevideo
from the command line, and then specify yourself the VESA graphics driver with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels, that works for most systems.

If this doesn't fix the problem, please, give more details on your computer hardware, so that the development specialists investigate on this issue.

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***

Re: gparted opening failure

Well I'm working under Parted Magic. When I click on the Gparted icon it opens and then closes without showing the table.

I just launched it from the shell:

Re: gparted opening failure

Based on the error message, the libparted library does not like the current partition table geometry.  You might try GParted from the latest Ubuntu (11.04) Live CD.  I think they have a temporary fix in place for this problem.

Otherwise if there is no valid data, you might try erasing the partition table and writing a new one with GParted.
