Topic: Performance?

I tried to repartion a 160GB disk with 2 ntfs partitions. I wanted partition A to be increased with 5GB+ and partition b reduced by 5GB.
With gparted the process would have taken more than 1 hr, so I aborted the process (risky, I know...)
Acronis Disk Director 11 completed the same task within minutes...
Why is this? Acronis bootable media are based on linux as well as gparted, so why is Acronis so much quicker?
You should try to glean how they do it. Use a spy if necessary...

Re: Performance?

GParted isn't the software that performs resizing operations. It uses a number of other open-source tools for the various file systems (gnu-parted, ntfstools, hfsutils etc.) Furthermore, in many cases there is a simulation phase before the real operation. So, probably your process was in the simulation phase.

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***

If the simulation takes hours how much time takes the real process...?
