Topic: Improve shrinking process!

I got hooked very badly today: I unconsciously started partition shrinking without leaving spare free space. Now I am stuck in LiveCD since morning without any visible progress. Please add warning, which triggers when no free space is left for shrinking process. If I knew about this, I would have done all my work in 3 hours, not days.

Can you provide more details, such as:
What type of file system were you resizing (ext2, ntfs, resierfs, etc)?
What was the size of the file system and free space prior to resizing?
What size did you try to resize down to?
