Topic: liveusb hangs on device detection, in GUI - on Dell d620

Hi there,

After much trouble I managed to create a bootable USB stick with GParted on it. It boots fine (does take a bit long), but eventually X starts and I the GUI begins to render.

The problem is that it never gets any further than this. It keeps saying it is detecting devices (in the status bar). The progress bar keeps going from 0 to full.

I left it for 10 mins, but it did not get any further.

Can someone help me pls?

I am using v0.3.4-11, turned into a LiveUSB from the LiveCD, using the auto-script.

Thanks,
Surj

I found the answer: I left it alone for 3 hours. The GUI then appeared as I would have expected.

It turns out gparted was running ntfsresize in analysis mode. It had to check the entire disk to make sure that the journal was in good condition.

Anyway, there you go.

More shiny news: I've successfully edited a 60GB disk:

It used to have: 1 x 60GB NTFS WinXP partition

It now has (in order): 1 x 2GB Linux boot partition, 1 x 58GB NTFS WinXP partition.

WinXP boots and everything.

Sweet!
