Topic: Please Help, Problems with GParted LCD Windows XP

Okay, so right now I'm running (or was) Windows XP Pro x64. I used GParted LCD to repartition my HD, which is 250GB and had 45GB used, and create a 30GB partition to run Ubuntu 8.10 on. I created the 30GB partition and GPLCD told me that everything went well, but when I tried to restart my computer and boot from the HD I get colored symbols all over my screen and it just hangs. If I want to boot from CD it's fine, but after that I get like green phi, red and blue chi, all over my screen. Is this a known bug? I couldn't find it in the bug section.

I never used xp-64bit, but I think it wouldn't be so different than 32 bit.
Are you sure that you didn't delete any partition, or change the original partition order?

Try to boot the "recovery console" from the xp install cd and try to fix the boot-up. The usual commands that help are fixboot, fixmbr, and bootcfg. Google for them to find details on their use.

So I've tried fixboot, chkdsk, and a number of Windows Recovery methods that have been fruitless. When I run chkdsk /r in Windows Recovery the system freezes. When I try to do the upgrade repair from the Windows disk, it restarts to begin installation but gives the colored symbols and freezes after the device listing again. This blows ass because I had a lot of school files and a lot of music on it that I won't get back.

Okay, so thanks to all of your guys' suggestions and help, I finally managed to regain my corrupted partition. I downloaded a more credible and thorough partition tool (Active@ Boot Disk) and it worked perfectly. I'm not really sure what I even did to get it to work other than run a few scans, but my system now boots up. Again, thanks for nothing.
