Topic: merging/combining question

I am trying to merge 3 blocks of unallocated space on is like 1.14GB one is like 46MB and one is 1MB..I dont know how I ended up with them...I was messing around and dont know what I did..I know gparted doesnt have a merge feature, but is there a workaround, or another way to do it? I'm not good w/ this stuff

GParted is the only partitioning software I know of that is free that works with vista and doesnt make you format. If you can pint me to some windows partitioning software that works with vista and if free that has a merge feature, I'm all for it!

thanks!

Re: merging/combining question

Hi!

The only way to "merge" your chunks of free space is to move the partitions bordering these free areas. For example, if you have two partitions with some free space between them and an additional chunk of free space after teh second, the only way to merge these free areas is to move the second partition towards the front of the drive so it directly borders the first partition.
You can do this using GParted's "Resize/Move" feature: Just right-click the partitoon you want to move and select "Resize/Move" from the menu; you will be presented with a windows showing the partition you just selected as well as the neighboring free areas. Then click into the partition, drag it to the left, and click "Resize/Move". Afterwards, click the "Apply" button at the top of the GParted window - and wait until the operation completes (it can take several hours, depending on the size of your partitions and the speed of your hard drive).
