Topic: [SOLVED]Gparted won't read ntfs partition

I am trying to resize a ntfs partition with gparted so I can install linux mint as a dual operating system with windows xp. Gparted refuses to read the ntfs partition because there is a warning symbol ("!" inside of a yellow triangle) next to the partition. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, were you able to get rid of the warning and finally resize the partition? I have defraged numerous times but still get the warning symbol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This means that GParted detects some problem on the partition.
Please, give us the GParted version you used, as well as more details on your partitions (a screenshot would be useful).

Hi!

It is also relevant if you run GParted from a LiveCD or LiveUSB key, or if you use it from another hard drive with e.g. Linux installed (some people seem to like carrying hard drives around town to their friends... ;-) )

Have you tried to schedule a "chkdsk /f C:" from within Windows, and then rebooted to allow the operation to complete while windows boots up?

Re: [SOLVED]Gparted won't read ntfs partition

Problem solved! A friend told me to run a defrag in windows safe mode and then try to resize with gparted. Well, it worked! I defragged in safe mode and the warning went away and I was able to resize the partition and now have linux mint 5 installed. Thanks, to everyone that posted to my problem.
